I've been playing all sorts of media files in WinAmp...at least MPC, WAV, and WMA. However, just like yesterday, WinAmp stopped playing my WMA files! It wil play the MP3's just fine, but not the WMA files. Any freaking idea about what's going on here? I'd hate to have to delete over 60 songs just b/c my computer won't play them!!! *throws computer toward the window...*!!!
when you installed winamp, I imagine you would have told it what files to accept ... you might have to go back and change that so it will play wma files
Hmmm. First thing I'd do is hit control-P in the Winamp main window and arrow down the tree view to File Types and see if the particular file type is checked. In most cases I prefer Winamp to play whatever file type it will, so I usually go to the Select All File Types button then go to the Close button in the preferences. It may also depend on how you play them in Winamp. Some people wll go to Windows Explorer and hit enter on the flie name and see if Winamp comes up. Others will do things like hit L inside of Winamp to play indiviual files or hit Control-L to play a given folder at once. You may want to check and see if Windows Media Player also refuses to play hte files. Not sure why the files would just not play, but there you go.
speaking of winamp, if my connection speed doesn't get up over 28.8 kbps, I may have to go in preferences and change it so real player comes up and plays mp3 files. I find it strange that it doesn't matter with real player or windows media player if your connection speed is down to 28.8 k, but when winamp gets to that point, it starts buffering and either doesn't play, or keeps starting and stopping every few seconds. I wish my connection speed would get back to at least 31.2 kbps. Winamp is fine at that connection speed, but my connection hasn't gotten above 28.8k, and I'm getting frustrated, it's been what seems like a couple of weeks, grrrr
wonderwoman.
Simply go into the Winamp Preferences dialog box and arrow down to file types. Make sure that WMA files are selected.

Hi Chet,
I went in winamp and unselected ogg files, thenreal player will come up, but it tells me to wait while real player contacts real networks. It's some sort of auto update thing, and I don't want to update anything, and I'm not sure if it's trying toupgrade to realone or not, and I don't want to do that. I think all the file types in winamp are selected by default, but I don't think having wma files selected or unselected has anything to do with my 28.8 kbps connection. Winamp still have to buffer too muchto play mp3 or ogg filesas long as my connection speed stays at 28.8 kbps.
